Set up the playpen before your puppy comes home
Not just the crate — a proper pen that gives them space to move but keeps them safe. Put the crate inside the pen with the door open as the sleeping spot, and add a pee pad on the opposite side. This is their safe zone all day while you work.
Prepare a "leave toy" and a "work toy"
The night before work, stuff a Kong or treat toy and put it in the freezer. In the morning, hand it to your puppy as you leave. Frozen treats take longer to finish — they'll be busy for 20–30 minutes, which is often the hardest part of the day for them.
Sort your midday cover before day one
Don't wing this. Before your puppy arrives, confirm who's coming at lunchtime — a neighbour, a friend, or a professional dog walker. Write out a short handoff note with the routine. The Kit includes a dog walker sheet you can just hand over.
Always use the same potty spot
Take your puppy to the same patch of grass every single time. The smell of their previous visits triggers them to go again. It sounds boring but it cuts potty training time in half. Pick a spot and stick to it for the first two months.
Celebrate outside toileting like it's the best thing ever
Over the top. Clapping, high-pitched happy voice, immediate treat. Puppies repeat what gets rewarded. Every time they go outside, make it the biggest deal in the world. You will feel silly. It will work.
Don't check the camera obsessively
If you set up a pet camera (a great idea), try not to watch it constantly during work. Checking every 10 minutes doesn't help your puppy — it just raises your anxiety. Check twice: mid-morning, and when the midday visitor arrives.
Straight answers for working owners. ❤️
The Puppy Kit puts every tracker, log, and handoff sheet in one place—so your puppy gets the care they need, even when you're not there.
